Warsaw-based Legia have officially announced the appointment of a new head coach. As of December 19, the club’s first team is led by Marek Papszun, who has signed a contract until the end of the 2027/28 season. In the near future, the specialist will form his coaching staff, after which the team will begin preparations for the second part of the season.
The first training sessions under Papszun are scheduled for January 5. On January 10, Legia will travel to a winter training camp in Andalusia, Spain, to the city of Mijas, where the team will prepare for the spring part of the Polish championship.
At the same time, significant management changes are taking place at the club. As of January 1, vice-president Jarosław Jurczak will leave the board after 12 years of overseeing financial, legal, and administrative operations. He will continue working within the club owners’ structures. As a result, from early 2026, Legia’s board will consist of two members, with full responsibility for operational management resting with Marcin Herrra.
Legia owner Dariusz Mioduski emphasized that the appointment of Marek Papszun was the result of a long and complex process, reflecting trust in the coach’s experience and professionalism. He also expressed confidence that the Papszun–Herrra tandem will allow the club to realize its sporting and business potential.
Marcin Herrra noted that the main task at this stage is to properly prepare the team for the spring part of the season and overcome the difficult sporting situation.
It should be recalled that Legia are represented by Armenia national team midfielder Vahan Bichakhchyan. In the current season, he has featured in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and providing 2 assists.
After 18 rounds of the Polish championship, the Warsaw club are experiencing a serious crisis — Legia sit in 17th place and are in the relegation zone. In the UEFA Conference League, the team also performed unsuccessfully, finishing the league phase in 28th position and failing to reach the playoffs.
This is already the second coaching change at Legia this season. In October, the team was left by Edward Iordănescu, who was replaced by Iñaki Astiz, but he worked at the club for only a month and a half.
The new head coach Marek Papszun previously worked at Raków and became Polish champion in 2023.
