Tiknizyan’s Olympiacos change head coach

Greek club Olympiacos, home to Armenia national team defender Nair Tiknizyan, have officially announced the appointment of a new head coach. Spanish specialist Imanol Alguacil has taken charge of the team.

The club has not yet disclosed the details of its agreement with the 55-year-old coach. Alguacil replaces Jose Luis Mendilibar, with whom Olympiacos had previously ended their cooperation.

Alguacil’s most recent job was with Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab, which he left in February 2026. The Spanish coach is best known for his work at Real Sociedad, where he spent a significant part of his coaching career.

Mendilibar, meanwhile, left a notable mark on the history of the Piraeus club. Under his leadership, Olympiacos became Greek champions, won the domestic Cup and Super Cup, and achieved a historic success on the international stage by winning the 2023/24 UEFA Europa Conference League.

This season, Olympiacos sit third in the Greek Super League standings after the opening rounds, having collected seven points.

Armenia national team defender Nair Tiknizyan plays for the club after joining Olympiacos in the summer of 2026.

Olympiacos will play their next match on September 12 at home against Crete-based OFI. The game will be one of the first opportunities for the new coaching staff to make their mark in charge of the team.
