On January 14, the semi-final matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations took place in Morocco, determining the finalists of the tournament. Senegal and Morocco will meet in the decisive match.
In the first semi-final, Senegal edged past Egypt with a narrow 1–0 victory. The only goal of the match was scored by team leader Sadio Mané, who once again played a key role in the success of the “Lions of Teranga.”
In the second semi-final, tournament hosts Morocco faced Nigeria. Both regular time and extra time ended in a goalless draw, and the penalty shootout proved decisive thanks to goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who saved two penalties and sent his team through to the final.
For Morocco, this will be only their third Africa Cup of Nations final and the first since 2004. Playing at home, the Moroccans managed to reach the final despite the heavy pressure of expectations. Morocco have won the Africa Cup of Nations only once, back in 1976.
Senegal, meanwhile, will play in their fourth final, having previously reached the decisive stage in 2002, 2019, and 2021. Their only title was secured in 2021.
The final will take place on January 18 in Rabat. On the same day, Egypt and Nigeria will compete in the match for third place.
