From August 1 to 3, 2025, the U17 World Championships in freestyle wrestling took place in Athens, Greece. The tournament brought together the strongest young wrestlers on the planet, and the battle for the team title ended dramatically: on the last day of competition, Team USA managed to overtake Iran and claimed first place.
The American wrestlers won four gold medals, the best result of the tournament. The Iranians, despite a strong roster and five appearances in the finals, failed to win any gold and finished second. Russia rounded out the top three with two gold medals.
For Team Armenia, the only medal was won by Yegishe Mosesyan (71 kg), who showed real character and willpower. He lost in a close semifinal match to American Jayden James, who later left no chance for the Iranian in the final. Yegishe secured a comeback victory over an Uzbek wrestler in the bronze medal match.
Team standings (freestyle wrestling)
USA – 154 points
Iran – 150 points
Russia – 127 points (unofficial)

The Americans performed decisively on the final day, winning all three finals (two of them against Iranians). Before the last block of matches, Iran was leading the USA by 16 points, but the final result was in favor of Team USA.
