Armenia wins small gold and small silver at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships

Armenian weightlifters won two small medals in the men’s 71 kg weight category at the 2026 Junior World Weightlifting Championships, which are being held in Ismailia, Egypt.
Narek Grigoryan claimed the small gold medal in the snatch with a result of 144 kg. However, in the clean and jerk, the Armenian athlete was unable to register a result due to injury and dropped out of contention for medals in the total.
Another medal for Armenia was won by Hovhannes Hovhannisyan. He earned the small silver medal in the clean and jerk with a result of 171 kg. In the total, Hovhannisyan lifted 301 kg and finished fourth, losing the bronze medal on additional criteria.
The world champion was Delos Santos of the Philippines, who recorded a total of 326 kg. In the clean and jerk, he set a youth record of 187 kg. It is noted that even senior athletes did not lift such a weight at the European Championships.
