At the European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship held in Bratislava, the Armenian national team won two medals: one gold and one silver. The team’s head coach, Armen Babalaryan, answered journalists’ questions at a press conference after the tournament.
“We need to get rid of wrestlers who do nothing when they lose, we need to carry out a generational change in the team. We are starting a new cycle — we have several tournaments ahead before the 2025 World Championship. But I also want to point out that there were new wrestlers in this lineup as well. Everyone was in good physical shape, the issues arose only due to nervousness in some participants,” Babalaryan noted.
According to him, the upcoming tournaments will be an important stage of preparation for the World Championship. “We have several tournaments ahead before the 2025 World Championship, we’ll see what we can change,” the coach added.
The head coach paid special attention to the performance of Artur Aleksanyan. “Artur had an injury 20 days before the tournament — he had a cut on his forehead down to the bone, had to get stitches, and missed a lot of training. But he was in good shape, which is why he participated in Bratislava. As for why he didn’t compete for the bronze medal, he’ll explain that to you himself later,” said Babalaryan.
Despite the challenges, the Armenian team showed a respectable result at the European Championship. Ahead lies the work on correcting mistakes and preparing for new challenges on the international stage.
