Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov has ended his run at the 2026 US Open after losing to world No. 2 Alexander Zverev in the semifinals.

The German won the match in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (8-6).

In the US Open final, Zverev will face the winner of the all-American clash between Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton.

Reaching the semifinals became one of Khachanov's best results of the season. The Russian, who was ranked 50th in the ATP standings before the tournament, defeated Burruchaga, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Benjamin Bonzi, Learner Tien and Alexander Blockx on his way to the last four.

His quarterfinal match against Blockx ended prematurely after the Belgian was unable to continue due to health issues.

Khachanov's successful run in New York will allow him to make a significant jump in the ATP rankings. He has climbed to No. 26 in the live rankings and will return to the world's top 30 following the US Open.

Khachanov's career-high position in the ATP singles rankings is world No. 8. He is also an Olympic silver medalist in men's singles from the Tokyo Games.
