Today, on February 20, the first stage of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup kicked off in Cottbus. On the first day, the qualification round took place, where four Armenian gymnasts competed, and all of them advanced to the final—two on the pommel horse and two on the rings.
In their first senior tournament, 17-year-old Hamlet Manukyan and 18-year-old Mamikon Khachatryan qualified for the pommel horse final, securing first and second places with identical scores of 14.466.
For Manukyan, a two-time junior world champion in 2023, this is a particularly important moment. Last year, he won gold on the pommel horse and rings at the Junior World Championships in Antalya, Turkey, and now aims to solidify his success at the senior level.
More experienced athletes also made it to the rings final—Artur Avetisyan (14.600) and Vahagn Davtyan (14.233), placing first and third, respectively.
Olympic silver medalist Artur Davtyan will compete tomorrow in the vault qualification round.
