Armenian Chess Players Continue Their Campaign at the FIDE World Rapid Championship in Doha

The second playing day of the 2025 FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship has concluded in Doha, Qatar. Four rounds were played during the day, making the standings clearer ahead of the decisive stage of the tournament.
Performance of Armenian Players in the Open Event
After nine rounds, two Armenian representatives lead among their compatriots. Grandmasters Shant Sargsyan and Aram Hakobyan have scored 5.5 points each and remain strong contenders for high positions in the final standings.
Grandmasters Robert Hovhannisyan and Hayk Martirosyan have collected 5 points each. Half a point behind, with 4.5 points, are International Master Robert Piliposyan and Grandmaster Mamikon Garibyan. Grandmaster Emin Ohanyan has 3.5 points, while International Master Artur Davtyan has scored 2.5 points after nine rounds.
Women’s Tournament
In the women’s section, after eight rounds, the top Armenian performers are Grandmaster Elina Danielian and International Master Lilit Mkrtchyan, both with 4.5 points. Grandmaster Mariam Mkrtchyan has 4 points, while International Master Susanna Gaboyan has 3 points.
Schedule of the Decisive Days
The final playing day of the World Rapid Championship will take place on December 28. The rounds are scheduled to start at 15:00 Armenian time. After the rapid event, attention will shift to the World Blitz Championship, which will be held from December 29 to 30.
The tournament in Doha is entering its final stretch, and Armenian chess players continue to fight for top positions in one of the most prestigious events on the chess calendar.
