Slovenia has officially become the third co-host of the UEFA Futsal Euro 2026, which will take place from January 20 to February 7, alongside Latvia and Lithuania. This decision by the UEFA Executive Committee was made in April after the conclusion of the main qualifying round, in which Belarus secured a direct spot in the finals. Since Latvian and Lithuanian authorities prohibit matches involving the Belarusian team, a fair and balanced solution was reached by adding Slovenia as a new host alongside the other three nations.
Why Slovenia Was Chosen
Slovenia earned its place in the finals on sporting merit, having successfully passed through qualification on the pitch. Ljubljana’s bid was bolstered by its proven infrastructure: the country already hosted the Futsal Euro in 2018. Both Stožice Arena and Tivoli Arena meet UEFA’s requirements for capacity, equipment, and logistics, and the Football Association of Slovenia has demonstrated full readiness to ensure a high organizational standard.
Distribution of Matches by Country
-
Group A: Matches in Riga (Latvia).
-
Group B: Matches in Kaunas (Lithuania).
-
Groups C & D: Matches in Slovenia.
Each of the three cities—Riga, Kaunas, and Ljubljana—will host one quarter-final. In Ljubljana at Stožice Arena, 18 matches will be played: all Group C and D games, two quarter-finals, both semi-finals, the third-place play-off, and the final. When third-round group matches run concurrently, Tivoli Arena will serve as the backup venue.
Specifics for Belarus and Armenia
-
The Belarus national team, having automatically qualified, will be placed in Group C or D and play all matches in Slovenia.
-
The Armenia national team, having won its qualifying group for the first time, also earned a direct spot in Euro 2026. However, uncertainty remains:
-
If drawn into Groups C or D, Armenia will play all its matches in Slovenia.
-
If drawn into Groups A or B, it will start in the Baltics and then move to Slovenia for the knockout phase. Experts note this could pose additional logistical challenges at critical stages of the tournament.

Logistics and Preparation
UEFA has already initiated coordination among the three host associations, focusing on transport links between host cities, team accommodations, and media zones for accredited journalists. All three countries have committed to high hospitality standards for fans, from comfortable fan zones to an extensive public transport network.
