Henrikh Mkhitaryan is likely to continue playing for Inter Milan. According to Sky Sport, the Armenian midfielder has agreed to extend his contract with the club and is ready to accept a salary reduction.
According to the source, the agreement is expected to follow a 1+1 format — the contract will be extended for one season, with the possibility of further yearly renewals. This means Mkhitaryan could remain with the Nerazzurri for at least one more year.
The information about a possible extension was also confirmed by well-known insider Gianluca Di Marzio. According to him, Inter head coach Cristian Chivu managed to convince Mkhitaryan to continue his career at the Milan club for another season. At the same time, the details of the new agreement, including salary adjustments, are expected to be discussed by the parties in the coming days.
Previously, the future of the 37-year-old Armenian footballer had remained uncertain. After the final match of the season against Bologna, Chivu had already spoken about Mkhitaryan’s importance to the team, highlighting his professionalism, attitude and influence in the dressing room.
Mkhitaryan ended the season in a special status: in the match against Bologna, he came on in the second half and finished the game wearing the captain’s armband. At that moment, it was not ruled out that the match could have been the final one of his professional career.
Now the situation has changed. If the parties finalize the terms of the new contract, Mkhitaryan will continue his career at one of the strongest clubs in Italy and Europe.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been playing for Inter since 2022. During his time at the Milan club, he has become one of the team’s most experienced and important players, helping the Nerazzurri win six trophies, including Serie A titles. For Armenian football, Mkhitaryan’s possible contract extension with Inter would be important news: one of the greatest footballers in the country’s history would continue competing at the highest level.
