Armenia's Alina Charaeva has ended her campaign at the WTA 250 tournament in São Paulo, Brazil.
In the quarterfinals, the 24-year-old, ranked No. 133 in the WTA rankings, faced Anna Blinkova (WTA No. 94). Blinkova won the match in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
Charaeva therefore finished one step short of the semifinals. The Armenian representative earned two victories in São Paulo and reached the quarterfinals of this tournament for the first time in her career.
Her successful performance in Brazil will allow Alina to significantly improve her position in the world rankings. In the WTA live rankings, she has climbed 13 places, from No. 133 to No. 120.
Another Armenian representative, Elina Avanesyan, also competed in São Paulo. She began the tournament with a victory over Argentina's Julia Riera before losing to Charaeva in the second round, 2-6, 3-6.
Avanesyan is also set to improve her ranking and is provisionally expected to move from No. 155 to No. 148 after the tournament.
