Armenian wrestler Hrachya Poghosyan (60 kg) won a bronze medal at the 2025 World Championships, held in Zagreb.
In the third-place bout, the 26-year-old defeated Serbia’s Georgii Tibilov — the score was 1:1, but Poghosyan claimed victory thanks to scoring the first point. This medal is his first at a World Championship. Previously, Poghosyan twice fell just short of the podium, finishing fifth.
On his way to bronze, Poghosyan confidently opened with a 9:0 victory over Ukraine’s Vladyslav Kuzko, but lost in the next round to Uzbekistan’s Alisher Ganiev, who eventually advanced to the final. This gave Poghosyan a chance to fight for a medal, and he fully capitalized on it.
Poghosyan’s bronze became Armenia’s second medal at the World Championships. Earlier, Malkhas Amoyan claimed gold in the 77 kg category. Tomorrow, another Armenian wrestler — Slavik Galstyan (67 kg) — will compete for bronze.
