While the football world was focused on high-profile transfers and European competitions, a championship concluded in Colombia, delivering an emotional final and an unexpected hero. Bogotá’s Independiente Santa Fe became the 2025-I Colombian champions by defeating Medellín 2-1 in the decisive match.
The key figure of the final was 39-year-old Hugo Rodallega, who scored the winning goal despite sustaining an injury during the match. The former English Premier League striker finished the game virtually on one leg, yet managed to secure the trophy for his team and became the league’s top scorer with 10 goals.
Overshadowed by the dramatic finale was an important fact — Armenia national team right-back Jordy Monroy Ararat won another trophy with Santa Fe. In the 2025 season, he played in 11 matches and provided one assist. For the 29-year-old Armenian player, this is his second Colombian league title — he was also a champion with Santa Fe in 2016.
Jordy Ararat, born and raised in Colombia but representing Armenia internationally, once again proved his value in his homeland. His consistent performances, experience, and versatility helped the club on their long road to the title. The 2025 championship became the tenth in Santa Fe’s history and their first in the past nine years.
The defender has 8 caps for the Armenia national team, with his most recent call-up coming in 2023.
