Football Club Urartu has published its proposals for the reform of Armenian football, covering the Premier League, First League, Armenian Cup, refereeing, the status of foreign players, and the independence of FC BKMA.
The club supports the Armenian Football Federation’s (FFA) proposed format of an eight-team Premier League starting from the 2026/2027 season but suggests several modifications, including the creation of a Reserve Championship instead of the Second League. Urartu also insists on transparency in discussions, changes to the status of foreign players, and the mandatory publication of FFA decisions.
Additionally, the club supports the reform of the Armenian Cup, changes to BKMA’s status, and a review of the FFA’s judicial procedures. The statement emphasizes the need for a systematic approach to the development of Armenian football.
Key Changes Proposed by Urartu:
- Support for Option "B" of the Premier League reform with specific modifications.
- Establishment of a clear transition period, resulting in an eight-team league.
- Mandatory creation of a reserve championship for youth teams, replacing the Second League.
- Optimization of the Armenian Cup with weekday matches and the introduction of two-legged ties in the later stages.
- Adjustments to the definition of foreign player status to allow for more locally developed players.
- Resolution of FC BKMA’s status, proposing its financial and administrative independence. Otherwise, the club should be disbanded.
- Limiting squad registrations to 28 players.
- Increasing transparency in refereeing decisions and reforming the appeals system.
FC Urartu also emphasized its commitment to the development of Armenian football through investments in infrastructure and youth development. The club called on the FFA to ensure transparency in the reform process and consider the opinions of all championship participants.
