Greek side Olympiacos claimed their second victory in the 2026/27 Greek Cup. In the second round of the league phase, the Piraeus club defeated Volos 3-2 at home.
One of the key figures in the match was Olympiacos' new Mexican signing Gonzalez, who scored a brace. Another newcomer, Puerta, added the hosts' third goal following an assist from Gonzalez.
Olympiacos built a comfortable advantage during the match, but Volos managed to score twice late in the game to reduce the deficit to a single goal. Nevertheless, the Piraeus side held on to their lead until the final whistle and secured the victory.
Armenia national team defender Nair Tiknizyan, who joined the Greek club this summer, was named in Olympiacos' starting lineup and played the entire match.
The 2026/27 Greek Cup is being held under a revamped format. The league phase features 16 teams that were initially divided into pots. Each club plays four matches, facing one opponent from each pot.
The top four teams in the overall standings advance directly to the quarter-finals. Clubs finishing from fifth to 12th will compete in an additional playoff round to determine the remaining four quarter-finalists.
Following their victory over Volos, Olympiacos moved to six points and sit top of the Greek Cup league-phase standings.
