The Stepan Sargsyan Cup will be held in Yerevan: 181 wrestlers from 15 countries will compete for medals

The 26th Stepan Sargsyan International Freestyle Wrestling Tournament will take place in Yerevan from September 10 to 13. The competition will feature a strong field, with 181 athletes from 15 countries expected to participate.

According to the Wrestling Federation of Armenia, almost all of Armenia's leading wrestlers will compete at the home tournament. Among the confirmed participants are Vazgen Tevanyan and Arman Andreasyan.

The Armenian wrestlers will face strong competition from decorated international athletes. World champion Zahid Valencia of the United States, world and European champion Abasgadzhi Magomedov of Russia, European champion Ibragim Ibragimov of Russia, and many other accomplished wrestlers are expected to compete in Yerevan.

The Armenian government will allocate more than 25 million drams to the Wrestling Federation of Armenia for the organization and staging of the 26th international tournament.

The organizers have also established a prize fund. The winner in each weight category will receive $2,000, while the silver medalist will earn $1,000 and the bronze medalist $500.

The opening bouts of the tournament will take place on September 11, starting at 11:00. The official opening ceremony and the first part of the finals are scheduled for September 12 at 17:00. The second part of the finals will be held on September 13, starting at 13:00.

The Stepan Sargsyan Tournament holds a special status for Armenian wrestling, as it is the only wrestling competition held in Armenia that is included in the official United World Wrestling (UWW) calendar.

The roster of the United States team that will compete in Yerevan was previously announced. World champion Zahid Valencia will be one of the leading names on the American squad.

The 26th Stepan Sargsyan Cup is set to become one of the biggest international wrestling events hosted by Armenia in 2026.
