Erik Ter-Matevosyan defeats Arman Mkrtchyan in U20 World Championships bronze medal bout

Armenia’s Erik Ter-Matevosyan won a bronze medal at the U20 World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Bratislava.
In the bronze medal bout in the 97 kg weight category, Ter-Matevosyan faced Arman Mkrtchyan, who represents Georgia but also lives and trains in Armenia.
The closely contested bout ended 3-3. Ter-Matevosyan was awarded the victory on criteria after scoring the last point.
Both wrestlers have already earned international medals this season. Earlier, Arman Mkrtchyan claimed silver at the U20 European Championships, while Erik Ter-Matevosyan has now won bronze at the U20 World Championships for the second consecutive year.
Ter-Matevosyan recorded the following results on his way to the bronze medal:
- Round of 32: Erik Ter-Matevosyan — Dorian Trejo (Mexico) — win by walkover;
- Round of 16: Erik Ter-Matevosyan — Radostin Vasilev (Bulgaria) — 7-0;
- Quarterfinal: Erik Ter-Matevosyan — Maksim Ukraintsev (Kazakhstan) — 4-0;
- Semifinal: Erik Ter-Matevosyan — Yehor Yakushenko (Ukraine) — 0-8;
- Bronze medal bout: Erik Ter-Matevosyan — Arman Mkrtchyan (Georgia) — 3-3, Ter-Matevosyan wins on last-point criteria.
Armenia has so far won four medals in Bratislava — one gold, one silver and two bronze.
