Pyunik beat Marsaxlokk and advance to the second round of the Conference League

Yerevan’s Pyunik secured a place in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League after defeating Malta’s Marsaxlokk in the second leg.
The match in Yerevan ended in a 1-0 victory for the Armenian club, which won the tie 4-0 on aggregate. Pyunik had claimed a convincing 3-0 victory in the first leg in Malta.
The only goal of the return match was scored in the 80th minute. Daniil Kulikov confidently converted a penalty to secure the victory for his team.
Marsaxlokk played almost the entire match with ten men. Maltese goalkeeper Christopher Massumu was shown a straight red card in the 10th minute.
Holding a comfortable advantage from the first leg, Pyunik played at a measured pace but remained in complete control and registered 20 attempts on the opposition’s goal.
The victory also earned Armenia 0.250 points in the UEFA association coefficient rankings.
In the second qualifying round of the Conference League, Pyunik will face Hungarian side Debrecen.
