Modern International-Standard Sports Complex Planned for Kapan

A new sports complex meeting international standards may be built in Kapan. Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports has invited residents, experts and interested organizations to participate in public hearings concerning the project.

Under the proposed decision, the site of the existing football stadium in the Kapan community of Syunik Province would be recognized as an area of overriding public interest. This designation would allow a large-scale infrastructure project to be implemented on the site, including a modern football stadium and the necessary sports facilities.

The public hearing will take place on August 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia. The address is 3 Vazgen Sargsyan Street, Government Building No. 2, fifth floor, Yerevan.

Those wishing to participate must send a confirmation email to harutyun.eghoyan@escs.am by 5:00 p.m. on August 9. The email should include the participant’s first and last name, email address and telephone number.

Registered participants are asked to arrive at the venue at 1:50 p.m. on August 10 and bring an identification document.

The project justification states that the development of a modern football stadium and related infrastructure in Kapan is an important and timely issue for the region. The new complex is expected to support the development of youth, amateur and professional football throughout Syunik Province.

The facility would also create opportunities to host national and international competitions, increase physical activity among local residents and promote a healthy lifestyle.

In addition, the project is expected to contribute to the social and economic development of Syunik Province and enhance the region’s appeal as a tourist destination.

Opinions, comments and proposals concerning the project may also be submitted through Armenia’s unified public consultation platform for draft legal acts, e-draft.am, until August 11, 2026, inclusive.
