Avanesyan defeats Putintseva in Hamburg to reach first WTA quarterfinal in 17 months

Armenian tennis player Elina Avanesyan, currently ranked No. 208 in the WTA rankings, has advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 tournament in Hamburg.
In the second round, Avanesyan defeated seventh seed Yulia Putintseva, who is ranked 79th in the world. The three-set match ended 6–3, 2–6, 6–2.
After winning the opening set, Avanesyan encountered difficulties. She required a medical timeout and took pain medication but was able to continue the match and secure the victory.
In the quarterfinals, the Armenian representative will face top seed Oleksandra Oliynykova, who is ranked No. 45 in the WTA standings.
This is Avanesyan’s first appearance in a WTA quarterfinal in 17 months.
