Artur Zakharyan scores on his debut for Versailles

Armenian midfielder Artur Zakharyan scored in his first official appearance for French club Versailles.

The 28-year-old featured in the opening round of the French National championship against La Roche. Versailles suffered a 3-2 defeat.

Mouhamadou Sambu scored a hat-trick for the hosts, finding the net in the 30th, 47th and 57th minutes. Romain Basque opened the scoring for Versailles in the 1st minute, while Zakharyan reduced the deficit in the 64th minute, scoring his first goal for his new club.

Zakharyan joined Versailles this summer from Stade Briochin.

The Armenian midfielder spent last season with Stade Briochin. He made 27 appearances in the French third tier, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists.

The season ended unsuccessfully for his former club, however, as Stade Briochin were relegated from the National to the fourth tier.

Versailles, meanwhile, competed near the top of the table and finished fifth in the National last season. The move gives Zakharyan the opportunity to continue playing in France's third tier and compete for promotion to the second division.
