The Armenia women’s tennis team claimed their third consecutive victory at the Billie Jean King Cup. In the final round of Group D in Europe/Africa Zone Group III, the Armenian team confidently defeated Montenegro 3-0 in San Marino.
The tie proved to be tense, but Armenia’s representatives managed to win all three matches.
In the first singles match, Ani Amiraghyan earned a comeback victory over Divna Ratković — 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Then Elina Avanesyan also won in three sets, overcoming the resistance of Tea Nikčević — 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
The third point for Armenia was secured by Maria Azizyan and Alina Soghomonyan. In the doubles match, they defeated the pair of Petra Mirković and Maša Prijović — 6-1, 3-6, 10-8.
Earlier in the tournament, Armenia had beaten Azerbaijan and Albania by the same 3-0 scoreline. As a result, Armenia finished the group stage unbeaten and took first place in their group.
Thanks to this success, the Armenia women’s team earned the right to play in the promotion play-off for a place in Europe/Africa Zone Group II of the Billie Jean King Cup next season.
Armenia will face Estonia in the decisive match.
It should be noted that this is already the second success for Armenian tennis in recent days: the Armenia men’s team had earlier secured promotion in the Davis Cup.
