The Hungarian national team secured a historic victory in the first round of the UEFA Futsal EURO 2026, defeating Poland 4–2 in Group D. This win marks Hungary's first-ever victory in the final stage of the EURO — achieved in their eighth game at this level.
The goals for Hungary came from Fekete (6'25''), Pál (27'41''), and twice from Máté Szűcsák (34'50'' and 37'19''). For Poland, Kacper Pawlus scored (10'15''), and Hungary added an own goal by Kajtár (13'48'').
A highlight of the match was the goal by Kacper Pawlus, who became the youngest scorer in the history of the Futsal EURO finals. He found the net at the age of 19 years and 168 days, breaking a 24-year-old record.
UEFA named Máté Szűcsák the player of the match.
Earlier in Group D, Portugal confidently defeated Italy 6–2. As a result, Portugal and Hungary lead the group standings after the first round.
This was the final match of Matchday 1. Tomorrow, January 25, Matchday 2 will begin with four games in Groups A and B:
-
Croatia vs. Georgia
-
Armenia vs. Czechia
-
France vs. Latvia
-
Ukraine vs. Lithuania
UEFA Futsal EURO 2026 is being held from January 21 to February 7 across three countries — Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovenia. The tournament has already produced remarkable results, including Armenia’s historic debut victory over Ukraine in the first round. Armenia will next face Czechia on January 25.
Unlike Hungary, Armenia achieved its first-ever tournament win in its very first match in EURO history.
