Syunik to play in the Armenian Premier League next season

FC Syunik have officially confirmed that they will compete in the Armenian Premier League next season. The team from Kapan earned promotion after the Armenian top division was expanded to 12 clubs.

In the recently completed season, Syunik finished fourth in the First League. Despite that, the club received the opportunity to move up to the elite level of Armenian football, as not all teams that finished above them were eligible to compete in the Premier League.

BKMA-2 finished second in the First League, but as a reserve team, they are not eligible for promotion. Hayq finished third, but the club did not apply for a licence to participate in the top division. As a result, Sardarapat and Syunik earned promotion from the First League.

It should be noted that Syunik could have played in the Armenian Premier League last season as well, but the club refused promotion at that time. The main reason was the inability to host home matches in Kapan at the local stadium.

It is still unknown whether the stadium in Kapan is now ready to host Premier League matches. Earlier, it was reported that renovation works were planned at the venue in order to bring its infrastructure in line with the necessary requirements.

Syunik’s return to the top division will be an important event for football in Kapan. The new Armenian Premier League season will be held in an expanded format, with 12 clubs taking part.
