German football club Stuttgart has issued a strong statement against Turkish side Fenerbahçe, accusing the club and its fans of racist behavior during the UEFA Europa League Group Stage match held on October 23 at the Çobani Stadium in Istanbul.
The incident occurred towards the end of the game, when tension arose between Fenerbahçe midfielder İsmail Yüksek and Stuttgart forward Deniz Undav. Following the altercation, some home fans began chanting offensive slogans directed at the German striker.
In its official statement, Stuttgart emphasized that such conduct is unacceptable and contradicts the spirit of football and mutual respect between nations.
“Our club stands for diversity, tolerance, respectful interaction, and fair play. There is no place for racism, extremism, discrimination, or exclusion—neither in the stadium nor anywhere else in society,” the German club said.
Particular attention was drawn to the background of Deniz Undav. The forward, born in Germany to a family of Turkish-Yazidi descent, has repeatedly faced hostile comments while playing in Turkey.
As of publication, Fenerbahçe has not issued an official response to the accusations. According to German media, UEFA may open a disciplinary investigation into the incident.
