Croatian specialist Sandro Perković has left his position as head coach of Noah. The decision was made after the Armenian club was eliminated from the UEFA Conference League qualifiers. In the third qualifying round, Noah lost to Swiss side Sion: the first leg ended in a 2-2 draw, while Perković’s team suffered a 2-1 defeat in the return match.
Media outlets in the Croatian coach’s homeland have also reported his departure. Croatian journalists have described Noah’s decision as unexpected, pointing to the team’s results under Perković.
In Croatia, it has been noted that the defeat to Sion was only Perković’s second? No — only defeat in his last 26 matches. In addition, Noah started the new Armenian Premier League season with three consecutive victories.
Croatian media have also paid particular attention to the club’s previous European campaign, describing Perković’s work as historic for Noah. Against this backdrop, his departure following the elimination by Sion is being viewed as an extremely radical decision.
“Perković, in a sense, became a victim of his own results — he got the club’s management and supporters used to winning,” Croatian media wrote in their assessment of the situation.
Notably, Perković ended his final match in charge of Noah with a victory, as the Yerevan side defeated Alashkert 1-0. Thus, Noah made a perfect start to the Armenian league season under Perković, recording three wins in three matches.
