Today in Milan, a historic deal was officially completed: AC Milan and Inter signed a purchase agreement with the city municipality, acquiring ownership of the legendary “Giuseppe Meazza” stadium along with the surrounding territory in the San Siro district. The transaction amounted to 197 million euros.
According to a joint statement released by the clubs, the acquisition paves the way for a large-scale development project of the district and the construction of a brand-new world-class stadium. The current structure, renowned for countless derbies and European nights, will be demolished.
The project for the new complex will be led by the architectural firms Foster + Partners and MANICA, known for their contemporary sports arenas around the world. The new stadium will meet the latest international standards and, as noted in the announcement, will become “a new architectural symbol of Milan.”
In addition to the stadium, the area is planned to include a multifunctional sports and cultural space — a new attraction for fans, city residents, and tourists. Club management emphasizes that the project is aimed at long-term development and strengthening the positions of both giants in European football.
The deal is financed through Stadio San Siro S.p.A. with the participation of the international banking institutions Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan, as well as Italian partners Banco BPM and BPER Banca.
