Luciano Nakis, the Armenian president of Argentine club Deportivo Armenio, has been appointed as a member of FIFA’s Committee for Competitions of Men’s National Teams, as reported Diarioarmenia.
The decision was confirmed on October 2 during a FIFA Council meeting in Zurich, attended by the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Tapia, and Nakis himself, who also serves as AFA’s Prosecretary.
Nakis’s appointment is a recognition of his longstanding contribution to football development and management both in Argentina and internationally. For the head of a club with deep Armenian roots and great importance to the Armenian diaspora in Argentina, this milestone marks a significant achievement.
FIFA has included Nakis in one of its key committees responsible for overseeing the organization and regulations of international tournaments involving men’s national teams. This position will allow him to directly participate in discussions and decision-making processes that affect the calendar and format of FIFA competitions.
In addition to Nakis, seven other Argentine representatives have joined various FIFA committees, including Claudio Tapia (Rules of the Game Committee), Pablo Vásquez (Stadiums and Safety Committee), Federico Beligoy (Referees Committee), and other prominent football figures.
Thus, Luciano Nakis’s involvement in FIFA strengthens the position of both Argentina and the Armenian community within the global football landscape, opening new opportunities for cooperation and sports development on an international scale.
