The Buenos Aires Armenian community club, Deportivo Armenio, pulled off a real sensation in the Round of 64 of the Argentine Cup, defeating top-tier side Talleres Córdoba (3-3, 5-4 on penalties).
The match was not going in Armenio’s favor: the third-division team conceded two goals and was trailing 0-2 at halftime. However, in the second half, Jonathan Nahuel Herrera took center stage, scoring an incredible hat-trick in just five minutes (50', 53', 55'). As a result, Deportivo Armenio took the lead, completely turning the game around. Nevertheless, in the 75th minute, Talleres managed to equalize, and the match was decided by a penalty shootout. In a tense series of spot-kicks, Armenio proved more accurate and deservedly advanced to the next round. This match will go down in Deportivo Armenio’s history alongside their successful campaigns in the top division in the 1980s.
Now, in the Round of 32, Deportivo Armenio will face another Primera Division representative—Deportivo Riestra, who currently sits 5th in the Argentine top league.
