Lernayin Artsakh Withdraws from Armenian Women’s Championship as Top League Drops to Three Clubs

The Lernayin Artsakh women’s team has withdrawn from the Armenian championship. Team representatives announced the decision in an official statement, citing serious problems that made it impossible to continue competing.

Following Lernayin Artsakh’s withdrawal, only three clubs will remain in the Armenian Women’s Premier League — Noah, Urartu and Pyunik.

Players Speak About Difficult Situation at the Club

The statement says that for a long period the team had effectively been trying to survive on its own and continued competing even without the necessary conditions and resources.

Lernayin Artsakh representatives stressed that numerous problems, disappointments and unfulfilled promises had accumulated during this period. However, they chose not to disclose all the details of the situation within the team.

“For a long time, we tried to keep the team alive through our own efforts, to fight, not to give up and to continue even when there were practically no conditions to do so. Unfortunately, today we have reached a point where we can no longer continue down this path,” the statement said.

The team also noted that the decision to leave was not an easy one.

“We are not leaving because we have stopped loving football or stopped fighting. On the contrary, we are leaving because we loved this team too much and no longer want to continue on a path where the entire burden of keeping the team alive rests solely on the players’ shoulders. We did everything we could. Sometimes even more,” the statement read.

The authors of the statement thanked the supporters and everyone who had been concerned about the team’s future and supported it during a difficult period.

Lernayin Artsakh Was Third in the Standings

Before withdrawing from the competition, Lernayin Artsakh had played three matches in the current Armenian championship season.

The team had earned 3 points and was sitting third in the standings. Lernayin Artsakh’s only victory came against Noah.

As a result, following the club’s withdrawal, only Noah, Urartu and Pyunik will continue competing in the Armenian Women’s Premier League.

The situation surrounding Lernayin Artsakh once again raises questions about the stability and financing of women’s club football in Armenia, as the national championship has now effectively been reduced to just three participants.

Lernayin Artsakh’s men’s team continues to compete in the Armenian First League and is sixth out of 14 teams after six rounds.
