Karen Barseghyan appointed head coach of Yerevan’s Ararat

Yerevan’s Ararat have announced the appointment of Karen Barseghyan as the team’s new head coach.

Under the guidance of the new coach, Ararat will begin preparations for the 2026/27 season on June 30. Barseghyan’s previous club was Gandzasar.

Ararat executive director Tigran Gharabaghtsyan said the club is counting on the experience and professional qualities of the new head coach.

“Karen Barseghyan has extensive coaching experience in the Armenian championship. Through his work, he has repeatedly proven that he is capable of building a competitive and strong team. We are confident that with his dedication and hard work, Barseghyan will help Ararat achieve success,” Gharabaghtsyan said.

Barseghyan himself stressed that returning to Ararat has special meaning for him.

“No one had to convince me to accept Ararat’s offer, because I have always been, am and will remain an Ararat man through and through. That is my main motivation. Ararat has always been and will remain a special team in my life.

It may sound a little grand, but I believe that after 20 years I have returned to my home, where I spent my best years as a footballer. I became both a footballer and a person at Ararat. I understand very well all the challenges facing the club today. I know very well where I have come and where I want to go,” Barseghyan said.

Karen Barseghyan is well known to Ararat fans from his time at the club as a player. He played for the Yerevan side from 1993 to 2001, making 167 appearances in the Armenian championship and scoring 47 goals.

With Ararat, Barseghyan won the Armenian Cup three times — in 1993, 1994 and 1997.

During his coaching career, Barseghyan has worked at several Armenian Premier League clubs and has also coached the Armenia youth national team.
