The first day of the 2025 European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Bratislava has concluded. Finalists have been determined in five weight categories: 55 kg, 63 kg, 77 kg, 87 kg, and 130 kg.
All five Armenian representatives remain in medal contention — two have advanced to the finals, one will compete directly for bronze, and two will continue through the repechage rounds.
In the 63 kg category, Karen Aslanyan delivered a dominant semifinal performance, defeating Ukraine's Andriy Semenchuk 8-0 in just a minute and a half to reach the final. His opponent in the gold medal bout will be Turkey’s Kerem Kamal, the 2022 European Champion, who edged out defending continental champion Murad Mammadov of Azerbaijan in the semifinal. Notably, Kamal also claimed the title at the 2024 World Military Championship held in Yerevan.
In the 77 kg division, Armenia’s Malkhas Amoyan faced Bulgaria’s Ayk Mnatsakanyan in the semifinal and secured a 5-1 victory. In the final, he will take on Ramaz Zoidze from Georgia.
Manvel Khachatryan (55 kg) lost his semifinal bout 1-5 to Azerbaijan’s four-time world champion Eldaniz Azizli. He will compete for the bronze medal tomorrow.
