On May 26, the 2026 European Grappling Championship continued in Yerevan at the Gazprom Armenia Sports Complex. On the third day of the tournament, athletes in the under-20 age category stepped onto the mat.
Representatives of seven countries took part in the tournament: Armenia, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Moldova and Belarus.
Armenia was represented by a large team in almost all boys’ weight categories. Three Armenian athletes also competed in the girls’ divisions.
At the end of the day, the Armenian team won 8 medals, including two gold medals. However, considering the number of Armenian participants, the team’s performance can hardly be called fully successful. Some of the bronze medals were won in weight categories with a small number of athletes, while in more competitive divisions with more than four participants, Armenian representatives often remained outside the top three.
It is also worth noting separately that the gold medal in the girls’ 64 kg weight category was contested between two Armenian athletes, as no representatives of other countries were entered in that division.
The main success of the day for Team Armenia was the performance of Aram Sargsyan in the 58 kg weight category. The Armenian athlete became European champion after defeating opponents from Russia, Poland and Ukraine.
In the men’s U20 team standings, Armenia scored 101 points and finished fourth, behind Russia, Ukraine and Poland. Russia confidently took first place with 175 points and four gold medals.
