Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has announced his intention to retire from football as a Nerazzurri player. In an interview with Italian outlet la Repubblica (June 24, 2025), the Armenian footballer said he has no plans to return to the Armenian Premier League and is not interested in moves to leagues like Saudi Arabia.
Mkhitaryan is a product of Yerevan’s Pyunik academy, which gave many Armenian fans hope that he would finish his career at his boyhood club. However, the player has ruled that out.
“I don’t want to retire and later regret doing it too early. After Inter — that’s it. I don’t want to lower my level. I won’t return to Armenia. Places like Saudi Arabia don’t interest me either. With all due respect, I love football for the game itself, not for the money. Every morning I wake up eager to train and show what I can do,” said Mkhitaryan.
Mkhitaryan is currently under contract with Inter until the summer of 2026.
At the moment, he is in the United States with Inter, participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. After two group-stage matches, the Italian side has four points. A decisive match against Argentina’s River Plate will take place on June 26, followed by the knockout stage.
