Former Ajax and Armenian national team player Edgar Manucharyan shared his thoughts on the appointment of John van’t Schip as the head coach of the Armenian national team.
"I do not know John van’t Schip personally. When I played for Ajax, he was Marco van Basten’s assistant in the Netherlands national team. I believe he is an experienced specialist, but time will tell," Manucharyan said in an interview with Armenpress.
He also emphasized that the coach has many years of experience and expressed hope for his success with the Armenian national team: "There are significant differences between the Netherlands and Armenia, including in terms of mentality. However, from a football perspective, these countries are similar. Armenia has technically gifted players, and I think van’t Schip will need time to adapt and unlock the team’s potential," said Edgar Manucharyan in an interview with Armenpress.am.
It should be noted that the Football Federation of Armenia has officially announced the appointment of 61-year-old Dutch specialist John van’t Schip as the head coach of the national team. FFA President Armen Melikbekyan introduced the coach to the Executive Committee members, who unanimously approved his candidacy. The contract was signed under a 1+1 scheme, and van’t Schip will officially take over his duties on March 1, 2025.
