The now former head coach of Yerevan's Urartu, Dmitry Gunko, said goodbye to the team’s fans via the club’s press service.
The 49-year-old specialist concluded a three-year tenure in Armenia and has taken charge of Tula’s Arsenal, which plays in Russia’s First League.
During his time with Urartu, Gunko won the Armenian Cup and became the national champion. He also obtained Armenian citizenship thanks to his Armenian heritage. His son, Artemiy Gunko — a product of Moscow's Spartak — also received an Armenian passport and joined Urartu during the 2025 winter transfer window. He is a candidate for Armenia’s U21 national team.
In his farewell message, Dmitry Gunko said:
“Dear Urartu fans, our story has come to an end — a bright, unforgettable one that will forever remain in my heart. These three years brought me many happy moments — I hope they did for you too. Of course, there were defeats, but without them, there can be no victories. And we had two bright victories — the Armenian Cup and the national championship. I believe we will never forget this period.
Thank you all for the time we spent together — on the field and beyond. I embrace you all. I’m not saying ‘farewell,’ I’m saying ‘see you later.’”
Let us remind you that Urartu finished third in last season’s Armenian Championship and will play in the first qualifying round of the 2025/26 UEFA Conference League. Their first opponent will be Belarusian club Neman. Currently, Urartu is preparing for the European campaign without a head coach.
