Football club Urartu has officially announced the mutual termination of its contract with head coach Dmitry Gunko. The specialist had been in charge of the Yerevan team since the summer of 2022 and managed 119 matches, winning 66 of them. Under his leadership, Urartu became the Armenian champion and Cup winner in the 2022/23 season, while Gunko was named the country's best coach.
The club thanked Dmitry Ivanovich for his professionalism, dedication, and significant contribution to the team's development, noting that he became not only a coach but also a true leader who inspired the squad to great victories.
Almost immediately after his departure from Urartu, Gunko’s new appointment was revealed: he has taken over as head coach of Arsenal Tula. The 49-year-old is well known to Russian football fans. He spent many years working within Spartak Moscow’s system, where he won the youth league title three times and led the senior team in 2014. He also coached Khimki near Moscow and spent the last five years working in the Armenian Premier League.
Interestingly, as a player, Gunko had already represented Arsenal Tula — from 2001 to 2003, he played 71 matches and scored 2 goals for the club.
The new club has already welcomed the coach and wished him success and victories with Arsenal.
