Wrestling 💬 Comment

The first final bouts of the U17 European Freestyle Wrestling Championships took place on May 16 in Samokov, Bulgaria. As a result, the winners and medalists in five weight categories were determined.

On the first day of finals, two wrestlers from Azerbaijan became European champions, along with one representative each from Armenia, Russia and Georgia.

The main highlight for Team Armenia was Suren Ishkhanyan’s gold medal in the 55 kg weight category. In the final, the Armenian wrestler defeated Russia’s Osman Temirsultanov and earned Armenia its first medal of the tournament — and it was gold.

On May 17, Team Armenia will have a chance to add more medals to its tally. Erik Ghazaryan will compete for bronze in the 45 kg weight category, while Avetik Tutkhalyan will fight for a bronze medal in the 71 kg category through the repechage bracket.
