Suren Ishkhanyan Becomes U17 European Freestyle Wrestling Champion

Armenian wrestler Suren Ishkhanyan has won the gold medal at the U17 European Freestyle Wrestling Championships, which are taking place in Samokov, Bulgaria.
In the final of the 55 kg weight category, the Armenian representative confidently defeated Russia’s Osman Temirsultanov 8:2 and became the European champion among wrestlers under 17.
Ishkhanyan had a very strong tournament. Before the final, the Armenian wrestler won all of his bouts by technical superiority. On his way to the decisive match, he defeated:
France’s Isa Churaev — 10:0
Hungary’s Kiril Shumeiko — 15:4
Azerbaijan’s Abbas Shafiev — 15:4
His semifinal bout against the Azerbaijani wrestler was especially impressive. After the first period, Ishkhanyan was trailing on points, but he managed to turn the match around and secure an early victory.
Suren Ishkhanyan’s gold medal became Armenia’s first medal at the U17 European Wrestling Championships in Samokov. For the Armenian team, this is an important success and a bright performance by one of the country’s most promising young wrestlers.
Earlier, Armenia had won seven medals in Greco-Roman wrestling.
