Armenian sambo athletes win 4 medals on the first day of the 2026 European Championships in Tbilisi

Armenian athletes made a successful start at the 2026 European Sambo Championships, which are taking place in Tbilisi. On the first competition day, Armenia’s representatives won four medals: one silver and three bronze.
The best result for the Armenian team was achieved by Arsen Avedisyan, who competed in combat sambo in the under 71 kg weight category. The Armenian sambo athlete won three bouts and reached the final, where he became a silver medalist of the European Championships.
Bronze medals for Armenia were won by Boris Shatveryan, Narek Goginyan and Mkhitar Temuryan.
Shatveryan competed in sport sambo in the under 79 kg weight category. During the tournament, he earned two victories and climbed onto the third step of the podium. In the same weight category, Georgios Markaryan, representing Greece, won the silver medal.
In combat sambo, Narek Goginyan became a bronze medalist in the under 58 kg category. Another bronze medal for Armenia was won by Mkhitar Temuryan, who competed in the over 98 kg category and recorded one victory at the tournament.

Results of the first day of the European Sambo Championships
On the first day of the tournament, 11 sets of medals were awarded. The most successful were the Russian sambo athletes, who won six gold medals. Belarus won two gold medals. Athletes from Georgia, Ukraine and Bulgaria each claimed one victory.
The 2026 European Sambo Championships in Tbilisi will conclude on May 17.
