Armenian judokas begin their campaign at the U21 European Championships in Podgorica

The U21 European Judo Championships have kicked off in Podgorica. Four representatives of the Armenian national team took to the tatami on the opening day of competition.

In the under-60 kg category, Hayk Darbinyan lost his opening bout to Ukraine’s Danylo Avramenko and was eliminated from the tournament.

Armenia’s other representative in the same weight category, Shavarsh Nahapetyan, made a successful start by defeating Sweden’s Albin Forselius in his first bout. However, in the next round, the Armenian judoka lost to Italy’s Francesco Crociani.

In the under-66 kg category, Leva Srapyan was defeated by Serbia’s Veljko Simic in his opening bout, while Arshak Behchyan lost his first contest to Lithuania’s Simas Polikevicius.

Tomorrow, two more representatives of the Armenian national team will continue their campaign at the U21 European Championships: Zhirayr Ghambaryan will compete in the under-73 kg category, while Tigran Sarukhanyan will take part in the under-81 kg division.

The tournament in the capital of Montenegro will run from September 3 to 5.
