Armenian wrestlers claim four wins in German Bundesliga second round

Armenian wrestlers competed in the second round of the 2026/27 German Wrestling Bundesliga, with the matches taking place on September 12 and 13.
Karen Aslanyan and Shant Khachatryan, both representing Weingarten, enjoyed successful outings. Aslanyan, competing at 66 kg, earned a dominant 17-0 victory over Germany’s Mika Labes, while Khachatryan (75 kg) edged Romania’s Ilie Cojocari 8-7 in a closely contested bout.
Norik Harutyunyan also recorded a victory. The Armenian wrestler, representing Baienfurt in the 61 kg category, defeated Germany’s Karamjit Holstein 7-1.
Poland representative Gevorg Sahakyan (75 kg), competing for Heusbach, did not allow Vladimir Berenhardt to score a single point and won the bout 5-0.
Two Armenian wrestlers competed for Reilingen. Artur Amoyan (80 kg) faced one of the world’s leading wrestlers, French world and European champion Ibrahim Ghanem. The bout ended with a 13-3 victory for the Frenchman.
In the heavyweight category, Albert Vardanyan (130 kg) was defeated by Germany’s Jello Kramer 0-8.
Another wrestler of Armenian descent, France representative Arman Eloyan, competed for Riegelsberg. In the 61 kg category, he lost 1-4 to Kyrgyzstan’s Almaz Smanbekov.
Overall, Armenian wrestlers and athletes of Armenian descent recorded four victories in seven bouts during the second round of the German Bundesliga.
