The final matches of the Armenian Cup Round of 16 took place on October 29. Two of the Armenian Premier League's leading clubs, Noah and Ararat-Armenia, secured their places in the quarterfinals, but both needed extra time to overcome their opponents.
The most dramatic encounter was Noah's clash with Syunik, which produced seven goals and was decided only in the closing moments of extra time.
Ararat-Armenia Score Three Goals in Extra Time
Manuel Tulipa's side faced strong resistance and were unable to settle the contest during the opening 90 minutes.
Alioune Ndour opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 15th minute, but Guilherme de Oliveira Jesus equalized for the opposition in the 30th minute.
Ararat-Armenia had another excellent opportunity to regain the lead in the 72nd minute when they were awarded a second penalty. However, Ndour failed to convert his second spot kick.
Regulation time ended 1-1, sending the match into extra time.
Tulipa's team eventually made their superiority count. Benny Diaz, Maxence Carlier and Carlos França each found the net, securing a 4-1 victory for Ararat-Armenia and a place in the quarterfinals.
Noah Complete Incredible Comeback and Snatch Victory in the 127th Minute
An even more dramatic contest unfolded between Noah and Syunik.
The reigning Armenian champions found themselves trailing 2-0 at halftime and facing the possibility of an early cup exit.
However, Noah staged a remarkable comeback in the closing stages of regulation time. David Sualehe reduced the deficit in the 80th minute, before Hélder Ferreira scored a dramatic equalizer in the 91st minute to make it 2-2.
Both teams continued to trade goals in extra time.
Sualehe completed his brace in the 100th minute, giving Noah their first lead of the match at 3-2. However, Perch Pogikyan responded in the 106th minute to restore parity at 3-3.
With the match seemingly heading toward a penalty shootout, Hélder Ferreira delivered the decisive moment. He scored his second goal in the 127th minute, securing a thrilling 4-3 victory for Noah.
Both favorites therefore avoided surprise eliminations and will continue their pursuit of the Armenian Cup trophy.
