Armenia Wins 20 Medals at the U15 European Grappling Championship in Yerevan

On May 24, the 2026 European Grappling Championship among athletes under 15 took place in Yerevan at the Gazprom Armenia Sports Complex. Representatives of five countries took part in the tournament.
The Armenian national team was represented by a large squad in almost all boys’ weight categories. Two Armenian female athletes also competed in the girls’ events. Competing on home soil, the Armenian team won 20 medals, three of them gold.
The European champions for Armenia were Ruben Sargsyan in the 35 kg weight category, Narek Sargsyan in the 53 kg category, and Monika Asryan, who won the girls’ 40 kg division.
In the boys’ competition, Armenia scored 197 points and finished second in the team standings. Russia took first place, confidently topping the overall ranking with 227 points and winning seven gold medals among boys. Ukraine finished third with 70 points.
In the girls’ team standings, Russia also claimed first place with 120 points. Ukraine finished second with 60 points, while Armenia took third place with 45 points.
It is worth noting that in some weight categories there were 3–4 participants, with mainly athletes from Armenia and Russia competing. At the same time, several categories had a more representative field of 6–7 athletes, including participants from Ukraine, Belarus and Spain.
The European Grappling Championship in Yerevan will continue until May 27. On May 25, competitions among U17 athletes will take place, with a wider field of participants expected. On May 26, U20 representatives will step onto the mat, and on May 27 the tournament will conclude with the senior athletes.
