Armenia Defeat Iceland to Claim Third Davis Cup Victory

The Armenian men’s national tennis team claimed a crucial victory in the third round of the Davis Cup Europe Zone Group IV. The tournament is being held in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia.
Armenia defeated Iceland 2-1, beating one of their main rivals in the battle for promotion.
The opening match was extremely tense. Davit Poghosyan lost the first set to Rafn Bonifacius on a tie-break — 6-7 — but then came back strongly, winning the second set 6-3. In the third set, Poghosyan was leading 4-1 when his opponent was unable to continue the match.
In the second singles match, Mikael Avanesyan lost to Egill Sigurdsson — 3-6, 2-6 — meaning the outcome of the tie was decided in the doubles match.
The decisive victory for Armenia was secured by Samvel Aghayan and Davit Poghosyan. The Armenian duo defeated Egill Sigurdsson and Vladimir Ristic 7-6, 6-3, earning Armenia their third consecutive win at the tournament.

It is also worth noting that all members of the Armenian team at this tournament are 18-year-old tennis players.
Armenia will play their next match on June 19 against Albania. Earlier, Vahe Avetisyan’s team defeated Andorra and San Marino.
