Armenia overtakes Latvia and climbs to 34th place in the UEFA ranking

Armenia has taken an important step in the UEFA coefficient table. After Yerevan’s “Noa” defeated Slovenia’s “Olimpija” 4:1 in the 2025/26 Europa Conference League playoffs, Armenia rose to 34th place, overtaking Latvia.
Despite this success, reaching the level that guarantees representation in the Europa League remains extremely difficult. To do so, Armenia needs to climb to 33rd place, currently held by Moldova. Although Moldovan clubs have already finished their European campaigns, they still maintain a 2.000-point advantage. Making up such a gap in a single season is nearly impossible: “Noa” would not only need to beat “Olimpija” in the return match but also secure at least 7 wins in the Conference League group stage.
Nevertheless, every additional point earned by “Noa” carries strategic importance, bringing Armenia closer to the coveted 33rd place in future seasons. It is also important to consider the competition — several countries nearby in the table could catch up with or surpass Armenia.
Current UEFA ranking as of August 21:

Situation of competitors ranked 30–40:
-
Ireland – won 2 playoff matches. “Shelbourne” beat “Linfield” (N. Ireland) 3:1, and “Shamrock Rovers” defeated “Santa Clara” (Portugal) 2:1. At least one team will definitely reach the group stage.
-
Iceland – their only club, “Breidablik Rovers,” beat “Virtus” (San Marino) 2:1 and has a good chance of advancing.
-
Moldova – no more teams left in Europe, but they still hold a 2.000-point lead.
-
Latvia – both clubs lost their first playoff matches away. “Riga” fell 0:2 to “Sparta,” and RFS lost 0:1 to “Hamrun.”
-
Finland – “KuPS” suffered a crushing defeat to “Midtjylland” in the Europa League playoffs and will most likely continue in the Conference League.
-
Kosovo – “Drita” narrowly beat Luxembourg’s “Differdange” 2:1 at home.
-
Bosnia and Herzegovina – “Zrinjski” lost their home match in the Europa League playoffs and will probably continue in the Conference League.
-
Kazakhstan – “Kairat” is fighting for a place in the Champions League against “Celtic” (first match 0:0). If successful, the country will earn a bonus of 2.000 points — a major boost in the rankings.
The rest of the countries are far behind the 33rd spot and have little chance of continuing in the main stage this season.
Thus, Armenia’s current 34th place is both significant progress and a challenge. To consolidate this position and get closer to the top 33, “Noa” must continue their winning path, as rivals are also actively gaining points.
