20-year-old Armenian weightlifter Aleksandra Grigoryan won the gold medal at the 2025 European Youth Championships (U20) in the 58 kg weight category, held in Durrës, Albania.
Grigoryan delivered a flawless performance, successfully completing all six of her lifts and earning small gold medals in both the snatch and the clean & jerk. As a result, the Armenian athlete became the European champion with a total of 214 kg (91 + 123), setting new European youth records in the clean & jerk and total.
Silver went to Maria Olalla from Spain (205 kg), and bronze to Dana Berchi from Romania (204 kg).
After her final lift, Aleksandra suffered a minor back injury and left the platform with difficulty — but that lift secured her the record and the victory.
It should be noted that Aleksandra Grigoryan is also the 2024 European senior champion in the 55 kg category.
Grigoryan became the first representative of Team Armenia to compete at the 2025 European Youth Championships (U20 and U23). Today, Garnik Cholakyan and Seyran Khudanyan (60 kg, U23, men) will also compete.
