Happy upcoming New Year 2026! The outgoing year of 2025 was truly special for Armenian sports — dynamic, vibrant, and historic in many ways. It brought fans major international tournaments, landmark victories, and achievements that only recently seemed like distant dreams.

Armenia — A Hub of International Sports
In 2025, Armenia hosted a number of prestigious international competitions, strengthening its status as a key sports venue in the region:
Historic Achievements of 2025
The year will forever remain in Armenian sports history thanks to several breakthroughs:
• Armenia’s futsal national team qualified for the UEFA European Championship finals for the first time and will play at EURO 2026
• FC Noah became the first Armenian club to reach the playoff stage of European competitions
• Armenia won its first-ever WKF Karate World Championship medal — bronze by Suren Harutyunyan
• Spartak Mikaelyan became the first Armenian world champion in professional adult MMA
• Alpine skier Gleb Mosesov became the first Armenian to reach a World Championship final
Team and Individual Successes
2025 was also rich in individual accomplishments:
• Noel Mikaelyan won the WBC cruiserweight world title
• Armenia had three senior world champions during the year:
— Malkhas Amoyan (wrestling)
— Varazdat Lalayan (weightlifting)
— Spartak Mikaelyan (MMA)
• Eduard Spertsyan became Russian champion with FC Krasnodar
• Henrikh Mkhitaryan played in the UEFA Champions League final
• Armenia’s weightlifting teams won the overall standings at the European Championships (men and women)
• Figure skaters Karina Akopova and Nikita Rakhmanin earned an Olympic quota
Gymnastics — One of the Symbols of the Year
Artistic gymnastics deserves special mention. Artur Davtyan and Hamlet Manukyan won the European Championship and World Cup stages, while at the World Championships Artur Davtyan and Mamikon Khachatryan claimed silver medals, making gymnastics one of Armenia’s most successful sports in 2025.
