13-year-old Armenian chess player Sergey Sklokin-Baghiyan impresses at the Dvorkovich Memorial

13-year-old Armenian chess player Sergey Sklokin-Baghiyan delivered an impressive performance at the Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial in Aktobe, demonstrating a level of play worthy of strong grandmasters.

The young International Master finished the tournament unbeaten, scoring 6 points in 9 games. What makes his result especially remarkable is the level of opposition he faced, as Sklokin-Baghiyan showed mature and confident play against highly rated opponents.

During the tournament, Sergey defeated grandmasters Orimi Mahdi Gholami, rated 2530, and Nogherbek Kazybek, rated 2513. In addition, the Armenian chess player drew against several well-known grandmasters, including Andrey Esipenko (2684), Daniil Dubov (2649) and Ivan Saric (2624).

As a result of the tournament, Sklokin-Baghiyan achieved a rating performance of 2646. Thanks to his successful showing, his Elo rating increased from 2440 to 2465.

It should be recalled that in March of this year, Sergey Sklokin-Baghiyan changed his sporting nationality from Russian to Armenian. At the same time, he has been living in Armenia for several years and began his professional chess training there.

The 13-year-old currently holds the title of International Master (IM). The next major goal in his career will be to earn the title of Grandmaster (GM).
